President’s Message – June 2020
While some re-opening has begun in Alameda County, we have no word on dates for libraries. We know that the Library will need to make a number of changes to ensure the safety of those who visit the facilities. The changes will affect FAL programs as well. We will need to limit large gatherings, require masks, social distancing and sanitized surfaces. Even with those steps in place, we will take a very cautious approach in restarting any of our programs. So we expect to continue with virtual offerings for some time.
We are exploring a number of options for our used book sale and should have more to report in a month or so. We know many in our community and beyond depend upon the sale just as much as we depend upon the income to support library programs.
During these challenging times we want to thank all our supporters and our volunteers who have made our work possible and gratifying. Our fundraisers - book sales, Dewey’s Café and donation requests to supporters - are critical to our financial contributions to the Library. Your support will carry us through these times and inspire our work towards the future.
Karen Butter, President, FAL
